Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said it was an honor to be on Donald Trump’s enemies list, and wondered aloud about whether the former president could use the Justice Department to jail his enemies should he regain the White House.

“Just the other day, Trump said I should be imprisoned,” Schiff told MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Sunday. “And, of course, it’s not the first time he’s called for jailing me. You have to wonder, could a President Trump, unshackled by any opposition, somehow use the Justice Department to imprison his enemies?”

It’s an accusation Trump himself has made against the Biden administration, saying the DOJ has been weaponized to put him in jail and keep him from winning a second term in office. Other Republicans have made the same claim.

“It is unconscionable for a president to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tweeted following Trump’s indictment.

But Schiff opined that Trump should not be trusted with the DOJ or any other part of the executive branch.

“You can’t bet against how he would try to abuse the Justice Department,” Schiff told Psaki. “But I would also say it’s a badge of honor to be on his enemies list.”

“It’s not going to deter me,” Schiff said.
