Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) raised more than $8.1 million for his Senate bid in a record second quarter fundraising haul.
Schiff recently became one of the only members of Congress to be censured after House Republicans moved to condemn him for “misleading the American public and for conduct unbecoming of an elected Member of the House of Representatives” in a 213-209 vote.

However, this may have motivated voters to donate to the California Democrat, as evidenced by his second quarter contributions.
Politico reported on Wednesday that Schiff’s campaign boasted over 144,000 unique donors, as well as 233,000 donations from all 50 states and all 58 California counties.
Further, 98% of contributions came from grassroots supporters giving less than $200. The average donation was $34.
After being censured by his GOP colleagues last month, the congressman used social media, email, and text messages to campaign on the vote.
“This is a badge of honor,” he said. “They go after people that are effective. I expose the corruption of the former president. I led the first impeachment trial of the former president to the first bipartisan vote to remove a president.”
In the first quarter of 2023, Schiff announced his campaign raised $6.5 million. The most recent haul marks a nearly $2 million improvement. In the same quarter, his biggest opponent in the primary race, Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), raised $4.5 million.

The two Democrats are facing off to run for the seat of 90-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in the 2024 general election. In recent polling of the primary race, Schiff and Porter were neck and neck among California voters with 15% and 14%, respectively. With registered Democrats, 23% support Schiff, while 22% support Porter, per Emerson College Polling.
