A pair of American tourists were taken into French custody Monday after a night of heavy drinking led the two to spend their night in Paris’s iconic Eiffel Tower.
The two had tickets to visit the Parisian landmark Sunday night and allegedly became “trapped there due to their excessive alcohol consumption,” French prosecutors said, according to a report.

They were discovered sleeping Monday by Eiffel Tower security guards making their rounds before the landmark’s opening, the report noted.
“Quickly removed,” the two were transferred to Parisian police, and the SETE, or Societe d’Exploitation de la tour Eiffel, stated they intended to file intrusion charges.

“As no damage was found, the fine for trespassing on a historic or cultural site was dismissed,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
The only consequence due to the pair’s stay was a delayed opening, according to SETE.
