“The man is not in hiding, the man knows exactly what he’s doing,” Rev. Alfred Cockfield II, a friend to Cuomo, reported to the New York Post. “He’s had some ups and downs, and we’ve been friends through it all. You may not see a lot of him, but it’s only because he’s figuring out his next move. He’s resilient. I would not count that man out.”

Cuomo made his first post-resignation appearance at Cockfield’s East Flatbush, Brooklyn-based church last March.

“Andrew was Jafar, the evil guy from Aladdin who’s been banished to the Cave of Wonders and now he’s spending all his time trying to come back,” an anonymous former employee of both Cuomo and his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, said. “This is his life now. It’s what he goes to bed thinking about. He’s plotting and planning to reemerge. He’s keeping score on everything.”

Andrew Cuomo resigned from his gubernatorial office in August 2021, weeks after New York Attorney General Letitia James released a report indicating he sexually harassed 11 women. He denies all allegations of inappropriate touching and has accused James’s investigation of being politically motivated.

Recently, Cuomo’s brother Chris Cuomo reported that the former governor wasn’t in high spirits.

“This has been hard, and you learn a lot about the people in your life when you watch them struggle,” Cuomo said of his brother. “It’s true: When you struggle, you learn who your friends are. … But he has been in a struggle, and I have watched it. And I am proud of how he’s handling himself.”
