After last week’s fiery crash in California that landed actress Anne Heche in the hospital, police are now investigating the vehicular accident as a felony rather than a misdemeanor.

According to Jeff Lee, an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, Heche’s “blood showed signs of impairment, and that is why it is now being investigated as a felony traffic collision.”

“The blood draw results showed a presence of narcotics, but additional testing is required to rule out any substances that were administered in the hospital,” added Officer Annie Hernandez.

There was also an injury sustained by someone within the damaged property, leading to the charge’s elevation. A woman in the home sustained minor injuries for which she sought medical attention, according to a report.

Regarding Heche’s condition, a representative for the actress said she “has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention. She is currently being treated at the Grossman Burn Center.”

Last week, Heche crashed into a home in Mar Vista, which caused both the car and the home to catch on fire. Heche was pulled from the vehicle and transported to the hospital. The house was destroyed, and a fundraiser has been set up for the tenant.
