Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) received major pushback on social media for a post she made mocking Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh was dining at Morton’s The Steakhouse in downtown Washington on Wednesday night when a group of abortion rights protesters was tipped off on his location, forcing him to exit the restaurant through a back door. Ocasio-Cortez joked that the least the protesters could do was “let him eat cake,” a reference to Marie-Antoinette, the queen of France during the French Revolution.
“Poor guy,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “He left before his soufflé because he decided half the country should risk death if they have an ectopic pregnancy within the wrong state lines. It’s all very unfair to him.”

I do not think Morton’s serves soufflé.
Also she’s really overstating things Re: ectopic pregnancies. Those would almost always if not always require ending to save the mother’s life. Which pretty clearly means they’re going to be excluded from bans. https://t.co/9xvAKAlxOA

This is dangerous propaganda. Not one state prevents the treatment of ectopic pregnancy – and Planned Parenthood itself doesn’t even define this treatment as an abortion as the “pregnancy” isn’t viable. https://t.co/9hcecGQgTD

.@AOC, a Marxist politician, supports illegal intimidation of Supreme Court justices because she is angry that states are once again able to protect the right to life of unborn human beings. https://t.co/IhmRdjRQrL

Ocasio-Cortez, seen by some as a possible Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential election, has called the overturning of Roe v. Wade a “crisis of our democracy” and said the Supreme Court has “dramatically overreached its authority.” During a protest on June 24, the day of the Supreme Court’s decision, she demanded President Joe Biden and the White House to open abortion clinics on federal grounds to ensure access to abortion after the nationwide right was overturned.
Kavanaugh was among the majority of Supreme Court justices who voted in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. He was also among the justices who joined an opinion authored by Justice Samuel Alito in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, ruling that Mississippi can maintain its law banning abortion after 15 weeks of gestation.
