As lower-polling Republican candidates continue to drop out of the 2024 race, Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) pledged to keep his campaign going until at least the New Hampshire primary.
Despite making it to two Republican debates, Burgum has continued to poll at the bottom of the field and failed to make a dent. He has consistently polled around 1%, failed to gain any support in many polls, and reached a high of 3% in a recent Trafalgar group poll. Despite this, Burgum retains hope and has pledged to hold out at least until the New Hampshire primary.

“Iowa, New Hampshire — absolutely, positively, we’re going to be here,” he told ABC News about whether he would keep his campaign going until the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 15.
Any possible hope Burgum had that the exits of two ideologically similar candidates, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and former Vice President Mike Pence, could boost his poll numbers appears unfruitful as polls remain largely stagnant.

An NBC News-Des Moines Register-Mediacom poll taken last month factored in voters’ second choices, and it found that Scott dropping out would evenly disperse his support to the extent that the polling of candidates would remain roughly the same. Among Iowa caucusgoers, where Burgum hopes to turn the tide, he polls at 3% when factoring out Scott.
Further adding to his woes, Burgum failed to make the stage of the third Republican debate, cutting him off from much-needed attention. He is set to miss the fourth debate next month as well.
