AT&T customers, both current and former, may be eligible to take advantage of a settlement worth $60 million from the communications company.
The settlement is in response to a lawsuit from 2014, in which the U.S. Federal Trade Commission alleged that at least 3.5 million AT&T customers subscribed to unlimited plans had their data speeds slowed down when they reached a certain limit every month. AT&T customers reported that video streaming, web browsing, and GPS navigation “became difficult or nearly impossible to use” due to this slowed speed, according to CNET.

AT&T disputes the agency’s allegations but elected to settle “rather than continue with drawn-out litigation,” a company spokesperson told the outlet.
To be eligible for this settlement, applicants must be former AT&T customers who had an unlimited data plan at some point between Oct. 1, 2011, and June 30, 2015, during which they experienced slowdowns. Applicants must also have never received a credit or check from AT&T relating to the settlement.
Most current AT&T customers should have already received a credit on their account; if they did, they are not eligible for this offer. Similarly, former customers who already received a check from AT&T are not eligible for this offer.

The specific amount one can receive from this settlement will vary on how many file a valid claim, according to an FTC spokesperson. In the initial round of compensation, current and former AT&T customers received between $10 and $23, with the amount varying on which state they lived in.
All applications for this settlement must be submitted by May 18. An applicant can submit their application either online via a form from the FTC or by requesting a claim form by calling 877-654-1982 or emailing [email protected].
