President Joe Biden denied that there has been a request for an interview with him by the special counsel in the case involving his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Biden told reporters on Friday that he has not received an interview request from special counsel Robert Hur in his classified documents case. Earlier this month, reports emerged that Biden’s attorneys were in negotiations with Hur’s office over potential terms for an interview with the president.

“There’s no such request and no such interest,” Biden said when asked if he was planning to sit for an interview with the special counsel.
Biden has been under investigation since a plethora of classified documents were found in his office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington and at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
Biden and former President Donald Trump have both faced scrutiny for their alleged mishandling of classified documents, with the topic being the subject of one of Trump’s four indictments.

Republicans have criticized an alleged double standard in the handling of Trump’s case as opposed to Biden’s. Biden has defended himself in the past by stressing his cooperation with authorities, which he contrasts with Trump’s handling.
Biden is also facing scrutiny over his alleged involvement in some of his son Hunter Biden’s business deals.
