President Joe Biden has taken his family to Lake Tahoe on the border of California and Nevada for vacation.

The home they are renting at fair market value, per the White House, belongs to climate activist and billionaire Tom Steyer. Neither Steyer nor his wife, Kat Taylor, will be present at the home for the weeklong vacation.

THREE HIGH-PROFILE BILLS THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE WILL HEAR BEFORE SESSION ENDS

Steyer was Biden’s political opponent in the 2020 race for the Democratic nomination. The billionaire dropped out in February of the election year after the first four state caucuses. The closest he got was winning third in the South Carolina Democratic primary. South Carolina would go on to vote for then-President Donald Trump in that election.

Biden is fresh from the trilateral summit at Camp David with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Republic of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol. It was the fourth time the three had congregated in the last 14 months. Afterward, Biden will visit Hawaii to witness the devastation of the wildfires on the island of Maui.

Hunter Biden and his wife Melissa Cohen joined the president and first lady in Lake Tahoe, though they flew separately on a commercial flight with their son Beau.

The president’s son was set to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and enter into a pretrial diversion agreement to avoid a felony gun charge following a nearly five-year federal investigation, but questions from a judge in July about what she called “unusual” provisions of the deal resulted in it unraveling. His attorney has already made clear that he is only willing to plead guilty to the two original charges and would plead not guilty otherwise.

President Joe Biden is in the middle of a reelection campaign and facing off against two Democratic candidates: environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and author Marianne Williamson. Thirteen candidates are vying for the Republican nomination.
