President Joe Biden may be at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll, but he is not ready to get the ball rolling on his reelection campaign.
“I plan on running, Al. We’re just not prepared to announce it yet,” Biden told NBC Monday.

“I plan on at least three or four more Easter Egg Rolls. Maybe five? Maybe six?” he said earlier in the interview. “I’ll either be rolling an egg or being the guy who’s pushing them out.”
Biden may not announce a 2024 bid until July, even the fall, according to Axios last week. The delay provides Biden with the opportunity to underscore the contrast between himself and potential Republican opponents, including former President Donald Trump, from the White House. But if he decides against seeking reelection, it could disadvantage his Democratic successor.
“No Republican candidate or potential candidate will affect our timing,” one Biden adviser told the news outlet.
“He’s not ambivalent about serving a second term, but he’s in no rush to be a candidate again,” another ally told CNN. “What’s the upside?”

Biden has made similar comments in the past, repeating that it is his intention to run. The president told reporters pressing him on his political future last month during a trip to Capitol Hill that he would announce his campaign “when I announce it.”
