Bill Gates announced on Tuesday he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Microsoft co-founder, who has been a vocal proponent of COVID-19 prevention measures and has donated to pandemic-related causes, shared his positive diagnosis in a tweet.

“I’ve tested positive for COVID. I’m experiencing mild symptoms and am following the experts’ advice by isolating until I’m healthy again,” he tweeted. “I’m fortunate to be vaccinated and boosted and have access to testing and great medical care.”

The positive diagnosis for the 66-year-old billionaire was revealed amid a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation meeting Tuesday. Gates said he will participate in the meeting through Teams, Microsoft’s communication service, to thank employees for “their hard work.”
“We will continue working with partners and do all we can to ensure none of us have to deal with a pandemic again,” he added.
As the co-founder of the philanthropic group, Gates has been heavily involved in efforts to help developing nations battle the pandemic. For example, in January, Gates pledged to donate $150 million to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations to provide financial assistance.

Gate’s positive diagnosis comes amid a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases in the United States, including among some high-profile figures.
Over the weekend, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul tested positive for COVID-19. A slew of journalists also tested positive after participating in the recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
