Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied having any role in a letter signed by dozens of intelligence figures alleging that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation.

In an interview with Fox News’s Benjamin Hall, Blinken said that he stays out of political matters in his position, which would include involvement in the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. He added that testimonies to Congress from other intelligence figures vindicated his statement.

“One of the great benefits of this job is that I don’t do politics and don’t engage in it. But with regard to that letter, I didn’t — it wasn’t my idea, didn’t ask for it, didn’t solicit it. And I think the testimony that the former deputy director of the CIA, Mike Morell, put forward confirms that,” Blinken said.

However, Blinken refused to say that he now accepts that the laptop story wasn’t misinformation, saying that his attention is elsewhere.

“Again, from my perspective, I’m not engaging in politics. I’ve got a lot on my agenda with the things that we’ve just talked about, trying to help the Ukrainians and the Russian aggression against them, engaging with allies and partners around the world, and dealing with some of the challenges posed by China. We have a situation now in Sudan that has fully occupied my time. So that’s where my focus is,” he responded.

Blinken has come under fire recently for undisclosed contacts he may have had with Hunter Biden during the time of the scandal, even drawing the attention of Congress.

The Functional Government Initiative, a government watchdog group, obtained a series of emails from Blinken during his time in the Obama administration through a Freedom of Information Act request. The emails showed Blinken and Hunter Biden corresponding and setting up personal meetings through Blinken’s private AOL email address during his time as deputy secretary of state.
