Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) plans to introduce several amendments to the Department of Defense appropriations bill, following through on the threat from hard-line conservatives to attempt to use the measure to defund the salaries of government officials.

Boebert’s office said she plans on filing multiple amendments that use the Holman rule to slash the salaries of DOD officials. The deadline to file amendments to the DOD appropriations bill is Wednesday.

While a spokesperson for Boebert didn’t go into detail about whom she plans on targeting, Boebert told the Washington Examiner in July that she plans on using the Holman rule to target Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The Holman rule allows members to file amendments to appropriations bills to fire specific federal employees, reduce their salaries, or cut certain federal programs.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus have threatened to use the Holman rule to target a number of President Joe Biden’s appointees and other federal employees.

A spokesperson for Boebert said in a statement that she “intends to leverage the Holman rule and all possible means to hold federal agencies and bureaucrats accountable in fulfilling their responsibilities and serving the American people.”

The Colorado Republican has already filed one Holman rule amendment to the agriculture appropriations bill.

Boebert and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) filed an amendment in July to use the Holman rule to cut the salary of the deputy undersecretary of the Food and Nutrition Service of the Department of Agriculture, Stacy Dean, to $1.

The agriculture appropriations bill is stalled in the House Rules Committee amid pushback from both centrist and Freedom Caucus Republicans.
