Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) took a veiled shot at President Joe Biden on Tuesday, saying he needs to show leadership as immigrants continue to arrive in New York from the southern border.
While speaking with reporters, Bowman said the state is struggling to provide immigrants with resources and needs help from the White House.

“I mean, we need leadership from President Biden — period. We need that leadership in New York state because New York state is struggling. We’re struggling to provide housing and all the support that the migrants need,” Bowman said.
The New York Democrat also stressed how the crisis may cost Democrats in the Empire State in the House elections next year.
“Here’s the thing — Democrats are looking bad right now in New York state and that’s unacceptable when we have to win at least four congressional seats to take back the House, so hopefully the president is listening,” Bowman said.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has listed six Republican members of the House from New York as targets in the 2024 elections. They are Reps. Nick LaLota (R-NY), George Santos (R-NY), Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Marc Molinaro (R-NY), and Brandon Williams (R-NY).
A strong performance by the GOP in House races in New York in 2022 helped the party retake control of the lower chamber of Congress, despite the party’s significant underperformance in key races throughout much of the country that year.
