Actor Bob Odenkirk, best known for his role as Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, reflected on his "cranky conservative" medical doctor's warnings about his health.


Actor Bob Odenkirk, best known for his role as Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul, reflected on his “cranky conservative” medical doctor’s warnings about his health.

“When I was 50, I went in, he was a heart doctor, Cedar-Sinai, and he had signs up all around his office at this point [saying]: ‘We do not accept Obamacare,’ and I hated this side of him that I only learned over time,” he said to podcast host Tig Notaro.

His longtime doctor had warned him that he needed to take a drug to lower his cholesterol.

Odenkirk remembers dismissing the idea, “I don’t have heart disease in my family.”

The doctor, whom he had been seeing for 20 years, continued to strongly encourage him to take the pills. “Just take ’em,” he had said to Odenkirk.

The 60-year-old Hollywood star received other doctor’s opinions discouraging him from taking the medication.

The actor then collapsed in July 2021 while on the set of Better Call Saul.

“And I had a heart attack. And I think the first doctor was right,” the actor said. “The cranky conservative jack*ss was right because he was a good doctor. His political point of view doesn’t have anything to do with his ability to judge your health and your health choices and needs.”
