A Huntington Beach, California, jewelry store owner opened fire on armed intruders Saturday after they broke into that store and shot at him, authorities said.
The shootout occurred at Isabella’s Fine Jewelry in the Huntington Harbour Mall around 4 p.m., according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Isabella’s Fine Jewelry was locked when the intruders broke in, Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla said, and they forcibly entered the store when the owner was helping a customer, according to a report.
At approx 4 p.m. today, an armed robbery occurred in the area of Algonquin St. & Davenport Dr.
Susps forcibly entered a business with weapons & an exchange of gunfire occurred as the store owner defended himself. The susps fled in 2 vehicles n/b onto the 405.

The intruders “forcibly entered a business with weapons & an exchange of gunfire occurred as the store owner defended himself. The [intruders] fled in 2 vehicles n/b onto the 405,” the police department tweeted.
After the owner shot at the intruders, the would-be robbers fled in two different vehicles, which each had more than one passenger, police said.

The customer who was being helped by the owner was cut by glass, but no other injuries were reported.
One of the vehicles believed to be involved in the incident crashed shortly after the shootout, and at least one juvenile was taken into custody.
