Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has joined the ownership group for the Kansas City Current soccer team, adding to his investment in professional sports teams.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has joined the ownership group for the Kansas City Current soccer team, adding to his investment in professional sports teams.

The ownership group of the Current, a National Women’s Soccer League team, already included Mahomes’s wife, Brittany. She purchased a stake in December 2020.

“I am thankful for the chance to join my wife as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team,” Mahomes said in a statement. “Brittany and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization. I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”

Mahomes also owns stakes in two other professional sports teams — the MLB’s Kansas City Royals and the MLS’s Sporting Kansas City.

Chris and Angie Long, who are part of the Current’s ownership group, welcomed Mahomes by touting him as having an “immeasurable impact on the Kansas City community.”

“Patrick is obviously a once-in-a-generation athlete and someone who has had an immeasurable impact on the Kansas City community,” the two said in a statement. “Working with Brittany has been a blessing. We are elated to now partner with Patrick too. The Mahomes are truly a remarkable family.”

Mahomes, a five-time Pro Bowler and former NFL MVP, led the Chiefs to their seventh straight AFC West title this year. The team will sit for a bye for the first round of the NFL playoffs after finishing at the top of their conference.
