A Florida child is in critical condition after he was stabbed in the chest by a catfish, authorities said.
“A child was listed as a trauma alert after being stabbed in the chest by a catfish,” Pasco County Fire Rescue said in a statement on social media.
The incident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. Monday, officials said.

A catfish barb was reportedly lodged 1-1.5 inches inside the child’s chest, according to the statement.
The child’s mother attempted to drive the victim to the hospital but was forced to pull over on the side of the road when “the child experienced difficulty breathing,” officials said.
“Firefighters responded to the area and listed the child as a trauma alert,” according to the statement.
