Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has reiterated his endorsement of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) instead of Donald Trump.

Roy took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to offer his first endorsement since DeSantis launched his campaign. The Texas representative had already endorsed DeSantis, but that was before the Florida governor registered as a presidential candidate.

The endorsement from Roy came as a response to DeSantis’s wife, Casey DeSantis, sharing photos of their tour of Iowa from last week.

“I stand 100% alongside this wonderful woman & her husband, Ron DeSantis, because they are truly good & decent people. America needs THAT again,” Roy wrote. “I proudly fight for to be our GOP nominee for President because it’s time to Meet The Moment & WIN again.”

One user responded to Roy’s endorsement, saying it doesn’t matter whether he supports DeSantis or Trump, also raising concern over a possible presidential bid from Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) or former first lady Michelle Obama. Roy responded to the tweet and explained his endorsement.

“Well — Ron DeSantis is debating Newsom on next week,” Roy wrote. “Trump is not showing up to debates…”

Trump has seemingly held a grudge against Roy for his opposition to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The former president opted not to endorse Roy in his bid to become the chairman of the House Republican Conference position in 2021, instead endorsing Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), which she won.

The fourth Republican debate will be hosted by NewsNation on Dec. 6, featuring moderators Elizabeth Vargas from NewsNation, Eliana Johnson of the Washington Free Beacon, and Megyn Kelly of SiriusXM. It will air at 8 p.m. Eastern, Trump is not expected to appear; he and Kelly clashed during a debate ahead of the 2016 election.
