Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) claimed former President Donald Trump did not finish what he started during his time as president, and this is one of the reasons why Trump should not be president again.
Christie, who is running against Trump in the Republican Party’s 2024 primary race, has made a name for himself in the primary for being a very anti-Trump candidate. The former governor of the Garden State listed several campaign promises that Trump had made but failed to complete during his first term in office, including building the border wall completely along the Southern border and bringing peace to the Middle East.

“And so, look, if he couldn’t do it in the first term with good people around him, imagine what he would do in a second term with the clowns and rogues gallery he would have around him in his second Trump term, cause that’s the only people that would actually work for him,” Christie said during an appearance on CNN.

Christie also cited Trump’s legal issues as to why Trump should not be the nominee the Republican Party puts forth in 2024, as Trump is facing multiple indictments. These indictments were issued throughout 2023 for a variety of reasons, including storing classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and Trump’s attempt to overturn 2020 election results in Georgia.
“This is going to be a big problem for our party, and we need to cut it off at the past, get rid of Donald Trump, and move on to honest, strong leadership that will tell the truth,” Christie said.
Trump is currently the lead candidate in the Republican Party’s 2024 primary, beating out the likes of Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The strong lead that Trump has sets up a potential rematch between him and President Joe Biden, who is seeking reelection next year.

On Saturday, former Vice President Mike Pence announced that he was suspending his 2024 presidential campaign. Christie took note of Pence’s withdrawal from the primary, noting that it is “narrowing” and that he suspects more candidates will withdraw “when we get to the debate stage in Miami.”
The next presidential debate is scheduled to be held on Nov. 8, with Christie, Trump, Haley, DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) all reportedly qualified to be on the stage. Trump is expected to not partake in the debate, as he has already chosen not to attend the previous two debates.
