Classified documents found at former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana home included briefings for foreign trips, a report said.
Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that some of the approximately 12 documents discovered at Pence’s residence were memos prepared for him during trips abroad. Such documents usually consist mainly of biographical information about the leader of the country being visited, but they may include some sensitive information.

One source noted that the documents were tucked into old trip binders and would not have been visible to packers unless they went through them page by page.
Another source described the documents as “lower level” and said they didn’t contain any particularly sensitive information.
Pence’s team notified the National Archives of the presence of the documents after finding them on Jan. 16.

“Vice President Pence was unaware of the existence of sensitive or classified documents at his personal residence,” Pence’s lawyer, Greg Jacob, wrote in a letter to the National Archives.
He continued, “Vice President Pence understands the high importance of protecting sensitive and classified information and stands ready and willing to cooperate fully with the National Archives and any appropriate inquiry.”
