The state Office of the Inspector General released body camera footage Saturday revealing more details into an ambush against three police officers in Connecticut.
Nicholas Brutcher, 35, was the shooter who was ultimately killed when officers returned fire. His younger brother Nathan was wounded.
“Brutcher fired well over 80 rounds, attacking the officers from behind, fatally shooting both Sergeant DeMonte and Officer Hamzy, and wounding Officer Iurato,” the caption to the video read.
TWO CONNECTICUT POLICE OFFICERS KILLED AND THIRD SERIOUSLY WOUNDED IN AMBUSH
State police suspected from the beginning that the brothers called 9-11 to intentionally ambush the officers, saying in a statement at the time that it appeared to be “a deliberate act to lure law enforcement to the scene.”
The surviving officer, Alec Iurato, was shot in the leg and able to make it way around the house for safety. He called in the incident to the Bristol police department, then made his way back to his vehicle, where, under cover, he fired a single shot that struck and killed Brutcher. Throughout the video, anonymous screaming is heard.
“It is evident from the evidence collected so far that the Officer Iurato’s use of deadly force was justified,” the IG’s caption read.
