Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) criticized President Joe Biden for his recent meet-up with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
Cotton’s criticism of the president comes after Biden attended the APEC summit with Xi, during which Biden claimed it was “a great honor and a pleasure” to host the Chinese leader. The Arkansas senator took issue with Biden’s overall demeanor and attitude” toward Xi, whom Cotton called a “communist dictator.”

“It’s one thing to meet with our communist adversaries,” Cotton said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “It’s another for Biden to say that it was an honor and pleasure to welcome a communist dictator like Xi Jinping to America. That’s not the kind of thing Ronald Reagan would’ve said when he brought Mikhail Gorbachev to the White House.”

Cotton also said that he was concerned about TikTok and its security. He added that he has called for a national ban on the social media platform and that the “last few weeks” have shown why the platform should be banned, referring to recent TikTok videos praising Osama bin Laden’s “Letter to America.”
“A good rule of thumb in these situations is if we would not have let communist Russia do it in the Cold War, we should not let communist China do it now,” Cotton said.

Biden and Xi have agreed to restart military-to-military communications, which Beijing cut off more than a year ago in protest of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan. The two leaders also came together on a deal to curb the spread of deadly fentanyl. During the summit, however, Biden claimed that Xi is “a dictator in the sense that he’s a guy who runs a country that is a communist country.”
That comment by Biden has been called “extremely wrong” and “irresponsible,” according to a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson.
