The Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa was put in handcuffs while protesting the influx of illegal immigrants that have arrived in New York City.

Sunday’s protest was outside Mayor Eric Adams’s residence at Gracie Mansion.

The demonstration began in the name of criticizing the mayor over the so-called “tent cities” for incoming immigrants. Adams’s policy has also recently transformed a former Staten Island nursing home into a shelter for them. Flyers for the protest read: “Occupy Gracie Mansion,” “no tent cities,” “no illegal immigrants,” “no ‘do as I say not as I do’ from Eric Adams,” and “let the one term mayor hear your voices.”

Video of Sliwa being escorted from the scene featured a repeating audio clip that reminded protesters: “This is the New York City Police Department. NYPD barriers have been set up for safety and security purposes. If you move, tamper with, or cross over the barriers, you may be subject to arrest for obstructing governmental administration.”

Police held the demonstrators at a distance from the residence with barricades. Several officers were present, along with large-capacity vehicles. Protesters came with signs; among them, one read: “down with neoliberal, cop mayer and anti-homless Eric Adams.” Rallying cries also broke out, such as “we the people do not comply.”

Eventually, counterprotesters entered the scene clad entirely in black. Two of them were captured on video grabbing at and slapping each other. One of the two was later seen on video being dragged away by police officers.

During the protests, Adams shared a photo of himself at the NYPD headquarters with the caption: “Command was clean and orderly.” Before that, he was photographed at Uzbekistan’s independence and soccer festival at Kaiser Park in Brooklyn.

An estimated 100,000 asylum-seekers have arrived in NYC over the last year. Adams predicted that the influx of immigrants will cost the city an estimated $12 billion by the summer of 2025 if the current rate of arrivals continues.

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) claims there are 12 sites spread throughout the city standing at the ready for the immigrants. However, the city has allegedly refused to accept help from the state.
