CVS and Walgreens are limiting purchases of children’s pain relief and fever-reducing medications as demand remains high due to a continued surge in respiratory viruses, including the flu and respiratory syntactical virus or RSV.
CVS is only allowing customers to buy two products each of pediatric pain relief medications for in-person and online purchases, while Walgreens will restrict online orders to six products but place no limits on in-person purchases.

“To ensure equitable access for all our customers, there is currently a two (2) product limit on all children’s pain relief products at all CVS Pharmacy locations and cvs.com. We’re committed to meeting our customers’ needs and are working with our suppliers to ensure continued access to these items,” CVS said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
A variety of pediatric cold and flu medications, including children’s Tylenol, Motrin, and Advil, are in short supply across the country because manufacturers are unable to keep up with the demand created by the rise in illnesses.

Walgreens said it has been working to meet demands for over-the-counter medications by partnering with new and current pharmaceutical suppliers and distributors to “minimize the impact and inconvenience for our patients and customers.”
Meanwhile, Walmart said it has not experienced any supply shortfalls for over-the-counter pediatric medications and will not be instituting any purchase limits at this time.
