Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is awake and showing “remarkable improvement” in his recovery in the days after he suffered from cardiac arrest during a game on Monday, team officials announced on Thursday.

“Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours,” the Bills said in a statement. “While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress.”

A teammate of Hamlin also gave an update on his recovery on Thursday, noting he is “awake and showing more signs of improvement.”

“Our boy is doing better, awake and showing more signs of improvement,” Buffalo Bills player Kaiir Elam said. “Thank you God. Keep the prayers coming please. All love 3!”

Hamlin remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s intensive care unit, just three days after going into cardiac arrest and collapsing on the field during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night. The incident prompted NFL officials to cancel the game temporarily, later announcing the teams would not resume the game this week. It is not clear whether the teams will return for a game at a later date.

The Bills are scheduled to host the Patriots on Sunday, with players set to hold their first practice since the incident on Thursday. Hamlin’s father, Mario Hamlin, conducted a video call with the team during a meeting on Wednesday to update his teammates on his progress.
