A painting of an ominous figure holding a gun was spotted on the back of the house belonging to the parents of the man suspected of firing on an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois, according to a report.

The painting depicts a dark figure of a person holding a rifle with a yellow smiley face, as reported by NewsNation on Tuesday. The yellow smiley face is similar to one seen on a shirt worn by the suspected shooter, Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, in one of his online videos containing violent images.
On Monday, after being identified as a person of interest, Crimo was taken into custody, roughly eight hours after the shooting.

Forty-five people were injured — and among them, seven have died — after Crimo opened fire with a rifle from a rooftop on the crowded street during July Fourth festivities in the city north of Chicago, according to officials. Crimo is believed to have been plotting the attack “for several weeks,” authorities said Tuesday.
Crimo had two previous encounters with police in Highland Park, with the most recent being in September 2019 over a “mental health issue” in which Crimo threatened to kill members of his family, Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, said in a news briefing.
Prosecutors are expected to announce charges against Crimo at around 5:30 p.m. local time Tuesday.
