A mall in Delaware has found a secret hiding behind its walls — an abandoned Burger King restaurant that has been untouched for more than a decade.
Wilmington’s Concord Mall was having some renovation work done when HVAC technician Jonathan Pruitt got a behind-the-scenes look at the abandoned fast-food joint. He took some pictures of the dining area, frozen in time, and posted them to Facebook. The post promptly went viral among those who remember the vintage look.
Burger King hasn’t been open in the mall since 2009, and the 5,000-square-foot space is seeking a lease agreement.

“It kind of feels like it closed yesterday — when you look in the trash here, they didn’t empty the trash the last day,” New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer said as he toured the space during a Facebook live video.
The mall’s general manager Thomas Dahlke reportedly thanked Pruitt for posting the pictures in the first place, earning the mall even more recognition. Dahlke’s company has owned the mall since 2020, long after the restaurant went out of business in that location. To his knowledge, the restaurant opened in 1987.
