Democrats are pressuring four Republicans from toss-up districts amid the debt ceiling standoff.

Courage For America, a liberal group that eyes the House, is hammering the four Republicans in ads and events, warning about cuts to the funding of veterans in the GOP debt ceiling plan.

KAMALA HARRIS TAKES HER PLACE AT THE DEBT LIMIT NEGOTIATING TABLE

Republicans have rejected claims from Democrats that their debt limit plan, the Limit, Save, Grow Act, which cleared the House last month, will slash funding for veterans. The proposal laid out caps for spending, but didn’t outright cut veterans’ funding.

“We’ve heard this lie over and over again,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) said last month. “The only person talking about cutting veterans benefits is Joe Biden … I will not bring the bill to the floor of the House, even if President Biden wants it,” he said, referring to a hypothetical bill that would cut veterans funding.

The White House has taken the proposed caps and estimated that it would amount to a 22% cut for veterans.

Here are four Republicans in Courage For America’s crosshairs.

Brandon Williams

Courage For America and aligned groups are planning to host an event with veterans taking aim at Rep. Brandon Williams (R-NY), a newly elected congressman from New York, Axios reported.

The event will take place in Williams’s district.

Williams represents New York’s 22nd Congressional District and won his seat against the backdrop of a messy redistricting process in which Democrats lost favorable apportionment due to court setbacks.

Jen Kiggans

Courage For America recently rolled out an ad attacking Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA), knocking her on veterans funding.

“Speaker McCarthy and his MAGA enablers in Congress are using this default crisis as an opportunity to make devastating cuts to veterans’ health care, education, child care, opioids treatment, and more,” Naveed Shah, Courage for America spokesman and political director, said

“Veterans like Nancy, who have sacrificed immensely to serve their country, deserve better than Rep. Kiggans’ plan to protect taxpayer giveaways to billionaires and corporations while cutting funding for service members,” Shah added.

Kiggans represents Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District after she defeated Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) in 2022.

John Duarte

Rep. John Duarte (R-CA) joined the House in the midterm elections in the second-closest congressional race of the cycle following Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). Courage for America and its allied groups are reportedly planning to hold an event with veterans in a bid to ratchet up the pressure against him, similar to Williams.

Marc Molinaro

Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY) is also facing a Courage for America-backed event in his district featuring veterans. The congressman won New York’s 19th Congressional District in the midterm elections. He previously ran unsuccessfully as the GOP nominee against then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2018.

Courage for America is also embarking on a seven-figure campaign to “educate communities about the impact of the MAGA-led effort to force a national default.”

Multiple liberal groups are zeroing in on dozens of Republicans on the debt ceiling battle. The Democratic National Committee, for example, recently began a six-figure ad buy against 10 vulnerable Republicans, pummeling them on the debt limit. Democrats need to flip five seats to recapture the House.
