The poll also showed that DeSantis is the favorite for the Republican nomination head to head against Trump. The poll showed 54% preferring DeSantis, but Trump holds the lead for the Republican nomination among all candidates and possible candidates, with 40% favoring Trump and 35% favoring DeSantis. Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence had 5% of the votes each.

The latest Marquette Law School poll was conducted from March 13 to March 22, with 1,004 people responding to the national survey.

The poll comes as the 2024 race for president starts heating up. DeSantis and Trump are considered the two front-runners for the GOP nomination despite the fact DeSantis has not announced a bid for the nation’s highest office. Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy are the only two Republicans so far to challenge Trump for 2024.

Biden has also not announced a bid, but he is expected to announce his campaign soon. However, a recent poll from Monmouth showed that only 25% of Democrats would like to see the current president, who is 80 years old, run for office in 2024.
