A political action committee supporting a presidential run by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has offered to relocate former President Donald Trump to California, where he can be “close to his good buddy Gavin Newsom.”

Never Back Down offered to fund the move on Saturday, shortly after Trump released a statement claiming that Florida had become “one of the least affordable states to live in” under DeSantis’s watch. Since announcing his candidacy for the 2024 election, Trump has targeted DeSantis several times, even though DeSantis has yet to announce if he will seek the presidency in 2024.

“Donald Trump has so deeply disparaged the state of Florida by calling it the ‘worst state,’ we at Never Back Down will help him leave by offering financial assistance to help him move to his beloved California, so he can be close to his good buddy Gavin Newsom, whom he loves so intensely and gets along with so well,” Never Back Down CEO Chris Jankowski said.

Never Back Down’s comment on Newsom is likely a reference to a statement Trump made on April 11, when he revealed “he gets along with” the California governor, despite Newsom being widely criticized by many in the Republican party.

“The good news is that since so many people are moving to the state of Florida, thanks to the incredible success of Governor Ron DeSantis, no one will notice when Trump leaves,” the statement read. “The state of Florida will be better off when Trump takes his Soros-fueled, dumpster fire of a campaign to San Francisco, where it will fit right in.”

Never Back Down has produced ads to target voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada for DeSantis’s hypothetical presidential run, with each ad specifically tailored to the states’ electorates. The ads tout DeSantis’s legislative record in Florida, including his targeting “woke” policies in schools and businesses, as well as his efforts to crack down on COVID-19 restrictions.

DeSantis is seen by many to be Trump’s biggest competitor in the 2024 Republican primary election, with both Republicans seen as the two most likely to secure the candidacy. Other Republicans vying for the GOP candidacy include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

In a recent poll from Harvard-Harris, Trump led the polling for the GOP’s presidential primary race at 55%, followed by DeSantis at 20%. Former Vice President Mike Pence at 7%, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley at 4%, and Ramaswamy at 2% followed behind Trump and DeSantis.
