During a campaign stop in Iowa, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) reacted to the news that U.S. Attorney David Weiss was appointed as special counsel to Hunter Biden’s investigation.
DeSantis told supporters on Friday his thoughts on the president’s son, saying, “If he were a Republican, he’d be in jail by now.”

The Florida governor’s comments came hours after Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Weiss being appointed special counsel in the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.
The statement dropped around the same time court documents showed federal prosecutors and Hunter Biden’s attorneys had arrived “at an impasse” on the failed plea deal. As a result, President Joe Biden’s son will be heading to criminal trial in either California or Washington, D.C., two locations where the alleged crimes took place, instead of Delaware.
Other Republicans, especially congressional lawmakers, are highly skeptical about Weiss’s new appointment to the investigation. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), for example, said he believes the announcement was made to “stonewall” the GOP investigations into the first family.
DeSantis also commented on the cocaine found in the White House last month, saying the public won’t have to worry about a similar discovery when he’s president.
“The good thing about us is, you know, my kids are 6, 5, and 3, so they ain’t going to be bringing any cocaine into the White House when I’m president,” DeSantis said. “Don’t worry about that.”

“There may be some finger paint, there may be some stuff that happens, but it’s going to be G-rated,” he added.
Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to two tax fraud charges on July 26 after it was expected he would plead guilty as part of the deal that excluded a felony gun possession charge from the case.
