MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said former President Donald Trump’s inner circle has turned on him after his second indictment and following arrest.

Scarborough and others responded to a New York Times story in which Trump’s former aides and former White House officials called his box collection of classified documents his “beautiful mind” material. The term refers to the 2001 Academy Award winner of the same name, which tells the true story of a schizophrenic mathematician who believed he was working for the U.S. government.

The Morning Joe host said on Friday the former president should be worried about colleagues and friends spilling his close secrets.

“Who are the people testifying? These aren’t the libs,” Scarborough said on Friday. “These aren’t, like, you know, people, the young Marxist league of southern Manhattan. These are people who worked for Trump, that are around Trump. They’re mocking Trump. They’re the ones testifying because they can justify to friends and family, I’m going to work for Donald Trump, but they can’t justify going to federal prison for him — and they’re all talking.”

In a conversation with reporters and investigators, Scarborough did not excuse Trump for his private trove of classified documents and expressed disgust as to how Republicans were defending the 45th president in light of the criminal indictment.

“This is why this is so grotesque, what Kevin McCarthy and some Republicans are doing, because they would never do it,” Scarborough said. “Because they understand it’s not just the crime — it is the scale of the crime. This is a tsunami of crimes, like, regarding a United States president and some of our most sacred, classified secrets.”

Trump allegedly kept dozens of cardboard boxes containing confidential information at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, according to the recently unsealed indictment. Some boxes were stacked in a storage room and even one bathroom.
