Former President Donald Trump is expected to endorse House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) to be the next speaker of the House of Representatives. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was ousted from the post earlier this week.
Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) said Trump will endorse Jordan in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. The Texas lawmaker said he thinks other Republicans should follow suit.

“Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race,” Nehls posted. “He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party. I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.”

Trump’s endorsement would add a heavyweight name to the list of those supporting Jordan. The congressman has already garnered the support of Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Jim Banks (R-IN), and Nehls, to name a few.
Jordan’s main competitor in efforts to attain the gavel is House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Scalise is currently garnering his own growing list of supporters, including Reps. Steve Womack (R-AR), Sam Graves (R-MO), Rob Wittman (R-VA), and others.

McCarthy was removed as speaker earlier this week after the first successful motion to vacate the House speaker passed by a slim margin. All House Democrats joined eight House Republicans in voting to pass the motion to vacate.
The motion to vacate was brought about by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). He filed it after McCarthy garnered Democratic support to narrowly avoid a government shutdown over the weekend.
