A White House doctor once deemed former President Donald Trump medically fit to serve but recommended he lose some weight in 2018.

Trump surrendered at the Fulton County Jail on Thursday on felony charges in connection with efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election. Booking documents showed that Trump currently stands at 6-feet-3-inches tall, and his weight was recorded at 215 pounds, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

During an annual physical, Dr. Ronny Jackson said the president could use more exercise and a better diet, reporting a “reasonable goal” of losing 10 to 15 pounds for the following year. Trump’s physical showed him at 6-feet-3-inches and 239 pounds in January 2018. While the then-president’s doctor said he was in “very good health overall,” Trump’s body mass index was at 30.4, which made him medically obese.

A doctor’s examination from 2020 showed Trump weighed 244 pounds, an increase from the physical conducted two years prior. Now, Trump’s new records show he’s lost 29 pounds since his 2020 examination, obeying doctor’s orders to lose weight, but some have expressed disbelief at Trump’s weight loss.

When reading out the Fulton County records, CNN’s Jake Tapper responded on air by questioning Trump’s 215-pound report. “Wait, wait, what?” Tapper said.

The numbers reported after Trump’s arrest may not be the most accurate, as the booking records for some of his co-defendant who have already turned themselves in, which have listed their race, hair and eye color, have reportedly had mistakes.

David Shafer, who allegedly signed documents claiming to be a presidential elector for Trump despite Biden’s victory, turned himself in Wednesday and records claim he has black hair and blue eyes. However, public appearances and other photographs show Shafer has brown eyes.

Initial records showed Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and a Trump lawyer involved in election fraud claims, at 5-feet-9-inches and 180 pounds after surrendering Wednesday, according to the Washington Post. Now, jail records show Giuliani at 5-feet-11-inches and 230 pounds.

With the first 2024 presidential primary contests mere months away, some voters are concerned about the age and physical fitness of the top two presidential contenders in a potential President Joe Biden and Trump rematch. Biden, 80, and Trump, 77, would be the oldest presidents at the end of their second terms. Opponents of Trump have often attacked his physical fitness as a reason not to serve another term in the Oval Office, while Biden’s critics deem him mentally unfit.

Trump has denied any negative claims about his physical fitness, claiming at the Conservative Political Action Conference in August 2022 that Jackson, who is now a congressman representing Texas, told him he was “the healthiest president that ever lived.”
