A father in Minnesota is being hailed as a hero after he chased down a stolen vehicle to rescue his children, who were inside.

The incident occurred Wednesday around 8:40 p.m. when a person in a stolen car stole a second one while at least four children were inside, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

The mother of the children had stepped out to drop off items at a nearby friend’s house, and the father had exited the car to close the back door, police said.

“I turn around, and I’m like, ‘What?'” the mother, identified as Deanah Gotchie, said. “I look out the door, and I see our taillights leaving.”

The father, Derek Gotchie, immediately jumped into the first stolen car and drove down the suspect driving away with his children.

He rear-ended the car and forced the suspect out, according to a report.

“I didn’t know what to do,” Derek Gotchie said. “I just hit the back of my truck and pushed him into this alleyway to pin him against this fence.”

No injuries have been reported, and no arrests have been confirmed.

“I asked [a police officer], ‘Did you find them?'” Deanah Gotchie said.
