The U.S. Food and Drug administration has granted Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech’s bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccine emergency use authorization, as the federal government prepares to roll out the updated shots to the public in the coming weeks.
Moderna’s booster has been authorized for individuals 18 and older, while Pfizer-BioNTech’s booster vaccine has been authorized for people 12 and older.
Half of the updated booster recipe targets the original strain of the virus from 2020 and the other half targets omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.
This is a developing story.
