A dentist in Miami has been fired after a video of him taking down posters of Israeli hostages was shared online.

Footage of Dr. Ahmed ElKoussa and another man was shared online by the non-profit Stop Antisemitism, which showed both men crumpling up a batch of posters in their hands. Following pushback online, the dentistry, Coral Gables, released a statement online informing that ElKoussa had been fired from his job.

SALT DEDUCTION BACK IN FOCUS AS NEW YORK REPUBLICANS FLEX MUSCLES IN SPEAKER DEBATE

“We are very sad to see this situation upon waking up,” read the statement. “Our office CG Smile is not in favor of any of the actions taken by Dr. ElKoussa. We do not support terrorist groups, actions, or supporters. He has been removed from our staff, all of our social media pages and groups.”

A representative for ElKoussa said that he had been tearing down the photos after hearing that a landlord in Illinois stabbed a six-year-old Palestinian-American boy and attacked the boy’s mother, with the landlord attacking them due to their Muslim faith and the conflict between Israel and Hamas. ElKoussa’s representative explained that he believed that posters, regardless of whether they supported Israel or Hamas, could lead to more violence, according to the New York Post.

ElKoussa is now asking for both an apology and a reinstatement of his job at Coral Gables, as it is “the only path to restore his livelihood and clear his good name,” read a statement from his representative.

“For his employer to rush to unquestioning judgment based merely on a random website’s uninformed and wildly speculative word on what is in Dr. ElKoussa’s heart over his is both outrageous and demeaning,” read the statement. “It is indicative of the atmosphere of hysteria we are in.”

Coral Gables firing ElKoussa comes as many people have been spotted on footage tearing down posters of missing Israelis, including on college campuses. Many commentators have condemned the people taking down the posters, including journalist Megyn Kelly and conservative Dennis Prager, the latter of whom suggested that the footage could “awaken” people of “the rot” from universities over the last few years.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has criticized academia for its coverage of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, calling out the presidents of Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Stanford University, and the American Bar Association for declining to stand against the attacks on Israel.
