Florida is sending families with foster and adopted children stimulus checks in an attempt to reduce the pain of rising costs for nearly all goods due to inflation

The $450-per-child payments are part of the state’s “Hope Florida — A Pathway to Prosperity” initiative, led by Florida first lady Casey DeSantis, which aims to help foster and adoptive families in the state.

“We are going beyond government by bringing community partners to the table to meet the needs of foster and adoptive families under the umbrella of my Hope Florida — A Pathway to Prosperity initiative. I am on a mission to make sure that no child in Florida goes without hope, happiness, and a home,” DeSantis said in a statement promoting the initiative.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’s spokeswoman Christina Pushaw confirmed the letter’s authenticity.
“This one-time payment can be used for anything from buying diapers to fueling up at the pump,” the letter from the governor read.

The payments are funded by the state’s budget surplus, according to Pushaw.
Florida is one of several states giving targeted stimulus checks in recent months. Minnesota approved one-time $750 stimulus checks in April for front-line workers as a way to “thank” them.
