Former Trump administration staff members said that the United States is “running out of time” to prevent former President Donald Trump from reentering the White House.
The three staffers, Sarah Matthews, Cassidy Hutchinson, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, discussed their experiences within the former administration, along with how Trump can still potentially become the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election. Matthews, who served as deputy press secretary during the Trump administration, said she believes that other staff members are not speaking out against Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was rigged because they could potentially “face death threats.”

“I knew that coming forward and speaking out against Donald Trump, I could potentially face security threats, or death threats, online harassment,” Matthews said in an interview with ABC’s This Week. “Despite all the personal sacrifice, I knew that ultimately it was the right thing to do. So I would just encourage others to come forward because we’re running out of time in order to try to stop Trump from being in the Oval Office again.”

Griffin, who worked as the White House Director of Strategic Communications, said that Trump knows “how to use government better this time” and that should Trump return to the White House in 2025, he could put “die-hard loyalists” in positions of power. Griffin claimed that such a situation was “almost too scary to fully wrap your head around.”
Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff, added that the “singular focus” should be ensuring Trump does not win the general presidential election in the event he becomes the Republican primary nominee. Matthews agreed, stating that while she has never voted Democrat, she would “choose democracy” over voting for Trump.
The Trump campaign was asked about the interview the trio of ex-staffers did with the outlet, to which the campaign called them “ungrateful grifters” who have gone “full Judas,” a reference to one of the disciples of Jesus Christ.

Trump has stated that he would not spend his entire presidency as a dictator if he becomes president again but that he would be a dictator on his first day back in the White House. The former president has made retribution a major focus of his 2024 campaign.
President Joe Biden is seeking reelection in 2024, meaning the next presidential election could end up being a rematch between him and Trump. Recent polls have shown Trump potentially beating Biden in the rematch, with the former president leading Biden in seven swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
