A family in Arkansas is reeling after a 4-day-old newborn died of the injuries she received from the family dog.
The incident was reported Wednesday after her family said she was attacked around 12:20 p.m. and the child was rushed to a local hospital, according to Cave Springs Police Lt. Keith Lawson.

She was then flown to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she was declared to have died from her injuries, according to a report.
Lawson also said that “based on the statements of witnesses and the opinions of medical professionals, it was determined that the fatal injuries were inflicted on the child by the family dog.”

The family dog, a 3-year-old Siberian husky, was reportedly put down in accordance with state law.
The death of the newborn is being investigated by officials, who said they do not feel that foul play was involved in the incident.
