As the 2024 presidential election slowly comes clearer into view, the economy will be on the mind of most, if not all, voters. The price at the pumps is one of the most direct and day-to-day pieces of evidence as to how the economy is fairing.

As of Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.540, up from $3.539 the day before and $3.535 the week before, according to AAA.

Here is how certain states and areas fare in their prices at the pumps.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.465, lower than the national average. The price was the same on Sunday, but one week ago Monday, the price was $3.425.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia is $3.309, below the national average. The price is up from $3.307 the day before but down from $3.321 last week.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is $3.636, higher than the national average. The day before, it was $3.632, and the week before, it was $3.619.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California is well above the national average, at $4.806. It was just a tick lower the day before, at $4.805, and $4.798 a week ago.

New York

In New York, the current average is $3.655, compared with $3.656 the day before and $3.664 last week.

Texas

The average price in Texas sits well below the national average at $3.059, compared with $3.065 the day before and $3.090 the week before.
