California Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s challenge for a debate against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has been mocked as the actions of someone “losing” by a man claiming to be a former staffer.
“One of the fundamental rules of politics is that the only person who demands debates is the person losing the argument,” wrote Bob Brigham, who is now a senior editor at Raw Story.

Newsom issued his challenge for a debate against DeSantis after the Florida governor said his California counterpart’s “hair gel was interfering with his brain function.” The Florida governor took the shot at Newsom after he sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking it to prosecute both DeSantis and Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX).
Newsom’s letter to the DOJ was referencing DeSantis’s decision to send about 50 immigrants, including children, on a bus to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, on Wednesday.

Newsom issued his challenge for a debate using a tweet from former CBS news anchor Dan Rather, saying that DeSantis is clearly “struggling, distracted and busy playing politics with people’s lives.”
“Let’s take this up and debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day,” wrote Newsom.
Hey @GovRonDeSantis, clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives. Since you have only one overriding need — attention –let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day. @CNN https://t.co/vTJHQxfArW
