A senior judge in Georgia has set a hearing date to consider former President Donald Trump’s motion to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis ahead of expected indictments over election interference.

Senior Judge Stephen Schuster, formerly of Cobb County, signed an order on Friday issuing a hearing date of Aug. 10, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Schuster ordered all sides to file legal briefs before Aug. 8.

The order comes after Trump filed a new motion against Willis and her efforts to investigate potential 2020 election interference.

Trump’s lawyers argue Willis is a “conflict of interest” as a political candidate and “requires disqualification,” urging for her removal from the case.

“She has personally inserted herself into Twitter campaigns requesting donations and followers while referencing her prosecution of this case,” the filing said. Trump’s attorneys claim Willis is “fundraising for her reelection campaign on the back of this case.”

Willis has indicated in the past that she may seek charges against key people who questioned Georgia’s 2020 election results, alluding that any charges related to the Trump investigation may come in the next few weeks, between July 31 and Aug. 18, according to a letter obtained by the New York Times.

Willis launched a criminal investigation into Trump in February 2021, and a special grand jury was selected in May 2022. The special grand jury, which does not have indictment powers, recommended multiple legal actions and at least a dozen indictments. The grand jury concluded, contrary to Trump’s claims, that there was no widespread voter fraud in a report that was partially released in February.

Fulton County prosecutors have requested to delay the release of the full special grand jury report. Trump’s motion requests any evidence obtained from the report not be used in any future civil or criminal proceeding.
