A Texas man is being credited with saving his neighbor’s life after her 22-year-old son began shooting at her.
A fight broke out between a woman and her son, who began shooting her with a semi-automatic rifle in the Highland Cross area of Houston Tuesday, according to a report.
Shots were first fired inside the woman’s apartment before she managed to get outside. Harris County sheriff’s deputies said that’s when a neighbor grabbed his gun in an attempt to help her.
The mother reportedly tried to hide behind a nearby tree, but her son soon found her and stood over her, shooting.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the neighbor then shot and killed the son.
“Very grateful the good Samaritan acted swiftly, acted, under the circumstances, reacted very well,” Gonzalez said.

The woman was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds. She is expected to survive.
“The way the suspect was just firing indiscriminately, just point-blank shot the mother apparently as he stood over her, was a dangerous individual that likely could have continued shooting. He was already shooting,” Gonzalez added.
A 16-year-old girl was sitting inside the apartment and was nearly struck by the gunfire. Gonzalez said shots also entered a nearby apartment.
“Thankfully, that owner, we’re told, was away from the apartment at the time,” the sheriff said.

Gonzalez noted that a grand jury will review the case and decide if charges will be filed.
