Retired Army Capt. Sam Brown is expected to announce a Republican Senate challenge against Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
He will be making a “special announcement” during a Monday event in Reno-Sparks, Nevada, according to an invitation sent to prospective supporters by Brown on Wednesday.

“Join Captain Sam Brown as he considers running for office,” an Eventbrite page said.
In the summer of 2022, Brown launched a bid for the Republican Senate nomination to face off against Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV). He lost to fellow Republican Adam Laxalt, who received more than half of Republicans’ support.

However, Laxalt failed to unseat Cortez Masto in the 2022 midterm elections, losing by less than 8,000 votes.
The Nevada Independent previously reported that a Republican consultant close to Brown said he was “seriously exploring” running for the Senate seat as National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Steve Daines (R-MT) recruited the veteran.
Daines said he believes Brown has a broad appeal and was impressed with his fundraising among small contributors, according to the report.
As a combat veteran, Brown suffered injuries that required extensive surgery, particularly to his face. Brown sustained severe burns in 2008 during his time serving in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device detonated and set him on fire. “The fact that I am alive is a testament to the purpose I still have — to serve others,” he said during his previous run.

Several other candidates have announced bids for the Republican nomination, including former Nevada state Rep. Jim Marchant, who has echoed former President Donald Trump’s claims about the 2020 presidential election, Las Vegas real estate agent Stephanie Phillips, and civil rights attorney Ronda Kennedy.
Rosen also announced her reelection campaign earlier this year with a video highlighting her working-class roots. Her seat is rated as lean Democratic by the Cook Political Report.
