Multiple Republican lawmakers are standing by former President Donald Trump in the wake of his latest legal troubles, with many issuing statements of support on social media.

The statements come after Trump announced Tuesday he had received a target letter regarding special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. The former president alleges the target letter was sent on Sunday night and gives him four days to report to the grand jury investigating the Capitol riot, adding that it “almost always means arrest and indictment.”

REPUBLICANS BLAST DOE GAS STOVE PROPOSAL AS ‘ALARMING VIOLATION’ OF LAW

In the hours that have passed since Trump’s announcement, here are all the Republicans who have declared their support for the former president.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)

McCarthy told members of the press on Tuesday morning that Trump has gone up in the polls for the 2024 presidential election, and in response, the Biden administration chose to “weaponize government” and “go after their number one opponent.”

“This is not equal justice,” the House speaker said. “It’s wrong, and the American public is tired of it.”

Rep. Bryon Donalds (R-FL)

Donalds, a congressman from Florida, shared a photo of him and his wife with Trump, stating he stands with the former president and sharing a quote from the French philosopher Montesquieu.

“There is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice,” Donalds quoted.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)

A staunch ally of the former president, Greene described Smith’s investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as “absolute bulls***.

“This is the only way that the Democrats have to beat President Trump is to arrest him, smear him, charge him with ridiculous charges, all in a cover-up of Joe Biden’s crimes, Hunter Biden’s crimes,” Greene said. “It’s unbelievable, it’s hard to even recognize that this is our country.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO)

The Colorado congresswoman, also a big ally to Trump, described the latest update to Trump’s legal trouble as nothing but “background noise.

“We realize without any doubt that DOJ is weaponized and their indictments have lost all credibility,” Boebert wrote. “President Trump will be re-elected in 2024 and I look forward to helping him gut the Deep State.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY)

Stefanik described the latest legal setback for Trump as a “witch hunt” for the former president, calling it “the latest chilling chapter in the Far Left’s unAmerican weaponization” of the Justice Department.

“The American people are smart,” a statement from Stefanik read. “They understand that Joe Biden’s Department of Justice continues to target his leading political opponent for the White House. President Trump continues to skyrocket in the polls, and just like with the Russia hoax, both sham impeachments, both sham arrests, President Trump will defeat this latest witch-hunt, defeat Joe Biden, and will be sworn in as President of the United States of America in January 2025.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)

Similar to other Republican lawmakers, Cruz expressed criticism of the “weaponization of the Department of Justice,” which “has turned our institutions into enforcers for the Biden administration’s partisan priorities.

“It remains deeply harmful to the rule of law,” Cruz wrote.

There is no timeline for when the Justice Department or prosecutors must indict a target after sending a target letter, meaning indictments could still be far off, but based on Smith’s handling of the classified documents investigation, it appears charges will likely follow shortly.

Trump was federally indicted on charges related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents. He was arraigned at a Miami, Florida, courthouse last month.
