Anyone working for minimum wage in any of these states will see bigger paychecks now that 2023 has arrived.
The increase in these minimum wage rates comes as the United States continues to combat inflation. Residents of Washington, D.C., will also benefit from a boost in their minimum wage, which is now at $16.50 an hour.

Alaska
Alaska’s minimum wage has increased to $10.85, which is up from the previous level of $10.34, according to Axios.
Arizona
The minimum wage in Arizona has now gone up to $13.85 per hour, up from the $12.80 per hour last year.
California
The Golden State has also increased its minimum wage, going from $15 in 2022 to $15.50 in 2023.
Colorado
Colorado’s minimum wage has gone up to $13.65, up from the minimum wage of $12.56 last year.
Delaware
The minimum wage of Delaware this year will be $11.75, an increase of over $1 from 2022’s minimum wage of $10.50.
Florida
The minimum wage in the Sunshine State experienced an uptick of exactly $1, going from $10 in 2022 to $11 in 2023.
Hawaii
The Aloha State’s minimum wage in 2023 will be $12, up by almost $2 from last year’s minimum wage of $10.10.
Illinois
Like Florida, Illinois’s minimum wage has increased by a dollar, from $12 last year to $13 this year.
Maine
Maine’s minimum wage increased to $13.80, up from the previous minimum wage of $12.75.
Maryland
The new minimum wage in Maryland will be $13.25, a step up from 2022’s minimum wage of $12.75.
Massachusetts
The state of Massachusetts will have one of the highest minimum wages in the country at $15 per hour.
Michigan
Michigan’s minimum wage will undergo one of the smallest increases of all the states in 2023, going from $9.87 last year to $10.10 this year.
Minnesota
Minnesota will similarly have only a small increase in its minimum wage, going from $10.33 per hour to $10.59 per hour.
Missouri
The state of Missouri will increase its minimum wage from $11.15 per hour to $12 per hour.
Montana
The only state on this list that will have its minimum wage remain under $10, the state of Montana’s minimum wage will be $9.95 this year.
Nebraska
Nebraska’s minimum wage will go from $9 an hour to $10.50 an hour this year.
New Jersey
The Garden State will have its minimum wage go from $13 an hour last year to $14.13 an hour this year.
New Mexico
The minimum wage in New Mexico will be $12 an hour in 2023.
Ohio
Ohio’s minimum wage in 2023 will be $10.10, up from last year’s minimum wage of $9.30.
South Dakota
South Dakota’s minimum wage will pass the $10 mark, going from $9.95 last year to $10.80 this year.
Vermont
The state of Vermont’s minimum wage will be $13.18 an hour beginning in 2023.
Virginia
Virginia’s minimum wage will be $12 an hour this year, up from last year’s minimum wage of $11 an hour.
