When asked about Hunter Biden and Garland’s attendance, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) said, “It should be an interesting dinner,” per the White House press pool. Scalise then discussed Modi’s earlier speech before Congress.

On Tuesday, Scalise called the Hunter Biden plea deal a “sweetheart deal” and said the deal was only cut “because his last name is Biden.”

“But let’s be clear: House Republicans will NOT stop our aggressive investigation into the Biden Family’s shady dealings and influence peddling,” Scalise tweeted after the Hunter Biden plea deal was announced.

McCarthy was also asked about the younger Biden and the attorney general being a guests at the state dinner, but he opted to talk about his guest to the dinner.

“I look forward to taking my daughter-in-law for the very first time to the White House. Every state dinner I brought another member of my family,” McCarthy said, per the White House press pool.
